The American Teenager

The American Teenager is a curious person. Someone who strives for freedom yet someone who could also want order, structure and an "American Dream" to enjoy. Of course, it's difficult to describe the teenager of America because they (we) can be very, very different from each other. The one thing that I think most American teenagers have in common is the desire to enjoy themselves to the fullest, in whichever way that may be. Of course this isn't to say that adults don't do this, but I feel teenagers are at a more pivotal point in there lives where this seems a number one priority.

  1. First of all, this is a very interesting picture :)

I think you do a great job summing up such a complex group of people. I do think you're right...while adults have more responsibility (earning a paycheck, feeding a family, paying insurance, etc.), teenagers have more freedom to 'enjoy themselves to the fullest' without some of the 'adult' restrictions. I will say, however, that many teenagers long for more freedom, yet, don't want to accept the responsibility that comes with that freedom. Do you think this is what causes the sometimes bumpy relationships between teens and 'authority?'
